2cofty: "There is NEVER an excuse for hitting children."
How about an older brother slamming his younger brother and gashing his forehead? No, not my children and no one got spanked but jus' saying.
one time, i heard a father in a meeting with married couples say `i sometimes have to smack my children a bit, but never in the face so as to not humiliate them.how beautiful!
he knows the sense of dignity!
he has to punish them but does it justly and moves on.

much has been said about muslims and iraq but little historical information has been given to understand the context.
context is important in understanding anything especially with regards to conflicts.
islam and the conflict in iraq requires knowledge of at least four different parties with a general understanding of their ideology.. islam was founded around 622 c.e.
@LUHE: "...so, where would they live? Who would have them?"
They would basically live where they were until their dislocation. The Yazidis, as I mentioned, are ethnic Kurds so they would live in 'Kurdistan'. The Christians, to my knowledge live mostly in northern Iraq In, I believe, in mostly Kurdish territory. I don't think, though I'm not sure, that the Kurds would persecute them. Christians and Yazidis were mostly left alone until ISIS came along.

@LUHE: "What about the Iraqi Christians and Yezidi?"
Christians number about 1.5 million in Iraq. Yazidis number about 500,000 - 700,000. Arming and guiding them with backup support should be helpful in reclaiming their own territory. I don't think that a sovereign state would be necessary for either one. The Yazidi are ethnic Kurds.

@LUHE: "Boots on the ground? I'm not so sure."
The Kurds are few in number and don't have the manpower to do everything that is necessary to choke of ISIS including guarding those oil fields which give them 1-3 million dollars a day worth of funding. A relatively large number of troops would also be needed, temporarily, to guard the borders through which ISIS smuggle supplies in and sell oil out.
We would only have to be there for less than a year as they mop up the last remnants of ISIS.
anyone else ever wonder about the claim that the world governments would turn on all religions except the wts?
until later when they are singled out?
what would be the separator?
I remember that the teaching, in the 1970s, went something like this.
insidetheKH, you seem to be a true believer - am I correct?
i started going door to door at age 5 and was giving no.
2 talks by age 7. during the 8 years i was an active adult jw i was never a ms or elder (although i was a regular pioneer once).
so, i never qualified to give an hour talk.
Prologos, Perry believes in the talking snake.
ok more about the jw wedding i attended.
there were these two couples at our dinner table that were having an all out pissing competition as to who was the most spiritual.
they were comparing who was in "the truth" the longest, who pioneered where and for how long.

@LUHE:
"I don't think we should be the main players in this."
We could be the facilitators. They really need boots on the ground to cut off ISIS access to oil fields and to give the Kurds backup support such as surrounding towns to keep ISIS from getting weapons. The Kurds simply don't have the man power to do everything by themselves.

You had me going there for a moment Perry. I thought, based on your title, that you were still in and giving talks at the Kingdom Hall.

@Simon:
"The problem is what else they would take care of with those resources."
I acknowledge the difficulties. I'm sure the Kurds will keep to themselves. The Sunnis might be deterred from avenging themselves because they're outnumbered 2 to 1 by the Shias.
The problem I foresee is what would happen in mixed neighborhoods where Shias and Sunnis live in proximity to each other. Flight is the response that's been happening at the present moment. Baghdad used to be a mixed city but currently Shias are leaving it to get away from the Sunnis.
Nothing is going to be 100% effective but I'm reminded of the saying: "...insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". Something new has to be tried. If it fails we did our best. That is how history would judge us.
